When you think of Josh Allen, you think of a superstar who puts the league on notice with his style of play. Whether he throws the ball 80+ yards down the field, takes off from the pocket and runs over defenders, or makes some type of ridiculous play that you don’t expect from a quarterback, Allen is a Top 3 quarterback and he certainly isn’t No. 3 or No. 2.
For the last two seasons, Josh Allen has had to carry the Bills like he’s Superman because of the lack of support around him at the wide receiver position. Luckily, the Bills changed the room a bit with the additions of D.J. Moore and Skyler Bell. Not to mention, Allen doesn’t have to run the ball as much because James Cook has established himself as one of the best backs in football.
However, Allen has always been the main focal point of the offense and without him, Buffalo isn’t the team that they are today. Even though Allen is the best quarterback in the league, he still has yet to reach the Super Bowl and it’s been the biggest knock on him.Â
Now granted, he can’t control his defense falling apart in crucial moments. At the same time, when you look back at the Bills’ playoff loss against the Denver Broncos last season, Allen was responsible for 4 turnovers including an unnecessary fumble at the end of the first half that led to Denver getting three points.
Again, the defense fell apart big time (once again), but Allen deserved blame for the loss as well. It was another year of the Bills falling short and their championship window closing a little bit more. With that, Josh Allen faces a lot of pressure going into 2026 when you look at what the Bills are going into this upcoming season with.
Josh Allen faces mountains of pressure heading into 2026
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone power ranked the quarterbacks who are under the most pressure heading into the 2026 season and Josh Allen is right at the top of the list.Â
"The Allen-era Bills have experienced everything besides a Super Bowl - Allen has won the MVP, racked up a ton of statistics, and the Bills have won a mountain of division titles during this stretch. The Bills have accomplished enough for this franchise to be in a 'Super Bowl or bust' window every single season, and with each passing year that it doesn't happen, the pressure only mounts, and an all-time legacy gets less and less meaningful." said Scataglia.
This might be a harsh take, but every year that the Bills don’t make the Super Bowl, the championship window closes more. Allen is right in the middle of his prime but he isn’t getting any younger. Now with his offensive coordinator getting promoted to head coach and an improvement at wide receiver this offseason, Allen has to utilize his experience and talents to finally do what he hasn’t been able to do since the early 2020s.
The clock is ticking for the Bills to reach and win the Super Bowl with Allen. I’m not saying that it’s go big or go home in 2026, but it gets harder to reach the Super Bowl every year.
