Without the presence of the greatness of Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills wouldn’t be among the NFL elites this decade. Prior to Allen, the team was stuck in mediocrity, no matter what star players outside of the quarterback position that they had. There is no doubt that the Bills have had some stars pre-Josh Allen, but it was a rough time to be a Bills fan.
Luckily with Allen, the Bills have brought back relavency to Western New York and every year that fall comes around, there is a lot of excitement and hope within Bills Mafia. Yes, that even includes this year with all of the changes that happened within the organization.
Even though the current thought process about the Bills is a good one to the public, Buffalo still has yet to go all the way, or even just make the Super Bowl in the Josh Allen era. Brad Gagnon from Bleacher Report reminded Bills fans of a painful reality about the organization despite them being among the best in today’s league.

Gagnon listed the Bills as one of the most cursed franchise going into the 2026, being ranked No. 3 out of 11 teams that were listed. The only two teams that were ranked above the Bills were the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns (completely understandable).
In Gagnon’s list, there were four categories that were mentioned; The Curse, The Number(s), Light at the end of the tunnel, and The Reality Check.
Buffalo's cursed focused on the four consecutive Super Bowl losses, including the infamous "Wide Right" kick from Scott Norwood. In addition, Gagnon also mentioned the Music CIty Miracle that was the start of Buffalo's playoff drought up until 2017.
Gagnon then talked about how in this decade, the Bills have a 73-27 record, which is the best record, even ahead of the Chiefs who are the only other team to have more than 63 wins. The big difference though, that Gagnon talked about was how the Chiefs have themselves two Super Bowls during that time period. Yet, the Bills haven't made it past the AFC championship game.
Josh Allen was the listed light at the end of the tunnel, which is a no-brainer. He is the one that keeps the Bills going at a high level, and as long as he is in his prime, the Bills' Super Bowl window will always be open. It may not be wide open, but it's not closed.
Then finally, the reality check that Gagnon talked about was how despite Allen under center, the Bills have just kept falling short even though they are one of the league’s best regular-season teams.
New era for Bills could switch up luck moving forward
Sean McDermott is out, Joe Brady is in. Jim Leonhard and Pete Carmichael Jr. are in the building as the new coordinators, and the roster looks a little bit different especially on defense. Change can always be scary, no doubt about it. Then again, change was absolutely needed as what was going on with McDermott just simply wasn’t working.
McDermott helped change the culture and he helped build a winning program. Now, Brady steps in and will not only have to continue that but he will also need to do what McDermott couldn’t. That’s not an easy task, but it’s also not an impossible one.
