Josh Allen, Bills listed as a big challenger to dethrone Eagles as Super Bowl champs

The Philadelphia Eagles rightfully deserved their Super Bowl win after they completely destroyed the Kansas City Chiefs. It was their defense that got to Patrick Mahomes and made him look the opposite of what he usually is. With what the Eagles did to the Chiefs, it stopped the first ever potential three-peat in Super Bowl history and now the Eagles are the hunted rather than the hunted.

Now the Eagles will go into 2025 as the defending Super Bowl champions and 31 other teams will be looking to take that championship away from them. We realistically know what teams have a shot at doing so (we know that the Tennessee Titans aren’t going to be challenging the Eagles).

Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports created a list of the top teams that are the biggest challengers to the Eagles (pre-NFL Draft) and to no surprise, the Buffalo Bills are on that list at No. 5. Buffalo was one of only two AFC team with the Cincinnati Bengals that were listed as the biggest challengers to the Eagles. The other teams were the Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Rams.

"Barring a surprise trade or blockbuster draft pick, Josh Allen is once again set to rely on a so-so receiver group, which is betting on ex-Los Angeles Chargers reserve Joshua Palmer as the speed threat. Still, as long as Allen is upright, this team should be feisty. Sean McDermott's defensive front also has the potential to take a big leap if Joey Bosa can stay healthy as Greg Rousseau's new running mate off the edge."

First off, even though the Bengals officially have the trio of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins for the future officially, their defense is completely horrendous. It showed last season and it’s a major reason why the Bengals missed out on the playoffs. Instead, it would make sense to have the Chiefs and Ravens listed in the top five. Both of them were honorable mentions.

Josh Allen, Bills are built to beat the Philadelphia Eagles

The last time the Eagles and Bills faced off was in 2023 when it became a candidate for game of the year. The Eagles ended up defeating the Bills 37-34 in overtime.

Buffalo matches up well to beat the Eagles because even though Philadelphia’s defense, the Bills have one of, if not the best offensive line in the league. They kept Josh Allen upright all season long and Allen was only sacked 14 times, a season-low for him in his career.

Now you add the improvements that the Bills made to their defense (signings of Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, Michael Hoecht - despite Ogunjobi and Hoecht being suspended for six games), Buffalo’s defensive line now has a more ferocious pass rush to go with Greg Rousseau and Ed Oliver.

There is still so much that can change from now until the start of the season, but it would be very surprising to see the Bills not listed as a big threat to take down the Eagles as defending Super Bowl champs.
