Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has made three brand new free agent agreements since Monday afternoon, all of whom are coming from a team out in Los Angeles. Beane kicked off the Bills’ free agency by signing wide receiver Josh Palmer from the Chargers. Then on Monday evening, the Bills struck a deal with Rams’ versatile defender Michael Hoecht.

Then on Tuesday night on the biggest splash of the day, Beane swooped in and found a way to get Chargers’ ferocious edge rusher Joey Bosa to agree to a one-year deal worth $12.6 million. It was later reported by Dianna Russini that the Bills outbid the 49ers and division rival Dolphins for Bosa’s services.

Bosa was released by the Chargers after spending 9 years with them. He had been with the Chargers since 2016, when they were still playing in San Diego. Throughout Bosa’s career, he has averaged 11 sacks per year, but his early career production is why that number is there.

We do have to take notice on the injury concern, where he’s only played in 28 regular season games the last three seasons (14 in 2024, 14 total from 2022-2023). Last season, Bosa posted 5 sacks, which ranked fourth for the Chargers. He also recorded 22 total tackles.

According to PFF BUF Bills, since 2019, Bosa has posted a 91.6 pass rush grade which ranks 6th among all edge defenders.

For the last six years, even with dealing injuries, Bosa has been beyond dominant off the edge and the Bills aren’t paying him a ton of money either. It’s a one-year deal where Bosa gets to be in a new winning environment and the Bills won’t hurt financially for the future.

The Bills needed to boost their pass rush. They released Von Miller due to low productivity throughout his tenure. While they did extend Greg Rousseau, they needed more. Now they have someone who can play opposite of him and create a two-man pass rushing duo against opposing quarterbacks.

With this signing, it shows Bills fans that players want to win and are willing to leave warm-weather areas and palm trees to try and be part of a winning culture.
