One of the only things that is better than seeing your favorite team have success is seeing a division rival set themselves up for failure. The Buffalo Bills have seen one AFC East division rival make mistake after mistake after mistake for a very long time.
The Bills have watched the New York Jets mess up every year in some fashion. Whether it’s them losing out on the number one overall pick in 2021 to draft Trevor Lawrence because they got a meaningless win against the Los Angeles Rams late in the season. There’s also a time where they went all-in for Aaron Rodgers, and basically did what Rodgers wanted in order to keep him happy, yet Rodgers only played one full season with them.
Then in the middle of last season, the Jets found themselves at 2-3, just one game out of the top of the division. However, that wasn’t good enough for the Jets as they fired head coach Robert Saleh, who actually was successful with the defensive side of the ball. New York then made another huge mistake of firing ex-general manager Joe Douglas in the middle of the season.
The Jets have been a mess for years and now they are restarting from the ground again with a new regime of general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn.
As they prepare to drag the Jets out of huge mess that they are in, Garrett Podell from CBS Sports made a prediction that has the Jets making a massive mistake and it would be pure comedy for Bills fans.
CBS Sports free agency prediction has Jets bringing Sam Darnold back to New York
I get it, New York needs a quarterback now that they are moving on from Aaron Rodgers and things could be very different with this new regime. At the same time, the Jets completely destroyed Darnold’s early part of his career. His major highlight of being the Jets quarterback was being caught on camera saying that he “was seeing ghosts”.
As the Jets starting quarterback from 2018-2020, Darnold had one season with a winning record as a starter (7-6 in 2019), had a 59.7% completion percentage, and threw no more than 3,024 yards in a season.
Now granted, Darnold has his best season as pro last season with the Minneosta Vikings. At the same time, he had Kevin O’Connell to work with, as well as a superstar wideout in Justin Jefferson and a solid running back in Aaron Jones.
As talented as Garett Wilson is, he’s no Jefferson. Breece Hall is a solid back for sure, but he’s already had a season-ending injury in his career. The offensive line for New York is also not as solid as Minnesota’s.
The biggest factor to consider is that Darnold won’t be on a cheap contract in 2025. Someone is going to sign him to a big deal due to his production last season. Will the Jets really be that foolish to bring in Darnold and spend big time money on him? It wouldn’t be smart on their end at all, but Bills fans would be laughing hard if this prediction does come true.
