Out of all the bad teams in the NFL, the New York Jets are currently leading the race in who is the most embarrassing. Teams like the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and the New York Giants have made headlines this year because of some very low moments. Cleveland may have been the only team that had higher expectations than the other, but they are still competitive atleast under Jameis Winston.
When it comes to the Jets, they had high expectations and were even pinned as Super Bowl favorites just because of their roster and getting Aaron Rodgers back from his achilles injury last season. However, things have gone downhill since their Week 5 loss in London.
Robert Saleh was fired after the Jets dropped to 2-3, despite being one game out of first place in the AFC East behind the Bills. Then Jeff Ulbrich was promoted to interim head coach and New York has won just one game. This past week, general manager Joe Douglas was also fired which completely eliminated the regime that the Jets had coming into this season.
According to Ari Meirov, per Jay Glazer, Jets owner Woody Johnson arrived to the Jets practice on Tuesday in his helicopter and Douglas allegedly looked at Ulbrich and made a joke about how it “was an honor to serve” with Ulbrich if he was pulled off the practice field. Later on, Douglas was relieved of his duties.
That's not even the worst part of this situation
It was reported by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, per Mike Chiari from Bleacher Report, that after Douglas was fired, he felt relief and even went fishing hours after being fired.
For Douglas to feel like this just shows how bad working for the Jets must have been. New York cannot find stability and they haven’t been able to be a threat since 2015. For both the head coach and general manager to be fired in the middle of the season, it shows the dysfunction the Jets have.
Sitting at 3-8 with no true leadership and a big personality quarterback who is in the news for more off the field stuff rather than production on the field, the Jets are a complete mess. The true downfall of the Jets this year started with them losing to the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. New York ended up making a trade for wide receiver Davante Adams when they didn’t need to and their defense has fallen dramatically in production.
The Jets are just looking to get to the end of the season and then they will start their search for any brave coaches and executives that want to take over this mess.
