It’s been quite the month for the Buffalo Bills and the fans. They came into the month of January preparing for the playoffs, they played in their old Highmark Stadium for the final time, and suffered yet another heartbreaking playoff loss in overtime to the Denver Broncos. Two days after the loss, Sean McDermott was fired.
That move itself caused a ton of reactions from fans and players. The Bills would then interview nine candidates for their open vacancy and yesterday was the day that it came to an end. They decided to go with their now former offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who brought the offense back to relevancy after Ken Dorsey created a mess in 2023.
Brady has been one of the top head coaching candidates for the last two cycles, but now he will take over for McDermott and do what McDermott couldn’t accomplish.
The hiring of Brady has made some fans excited, and some mad. However, hiring Brady was not only a bit of an expected move, but it’s the best move. The Bills get the best of both worlds with continuity and a little bit of a change as well. The offense has never been the main problem for this team. It’s been the defense.
While Brady has a tough task to fix this defense, we can't count out what kind of playcaller he has been, considering the talent that he has to work with. He received a phenomenal comparison to one of the all-time great coaches by former NFL player and current analyst, Manti Te'o.
Manti Te'o calls Joe Brady a "Sean Payton 2.0"
On Good Morning Football, Te'o spoke very highly of Brady from their time together in New Orleans.
Te’o and Brady were with the Saints together at one point and Te’o reflected on what type of coach Brady was with the Saints. “One of the coolest guys there is out there. You talk about Sean Payton 2.0. The guy is brilliant when it comes to offensive play calling.” said Te’o.

We all know how great Payton is as a playcaller, and he is one of the best head coaches of all-time. Te’o did mention how even though Brady was a great offensive mind, being the head coach is a lot more responsibility, which is very true.
It will be interesting to see what the Bills will look like under Brady. It’s a new era and all that fans can do is just sit back and see what improvements Brady and Brandon Beane will make this offseason.
