Colts' latest injury update give Bills defense upper hand for Week 10 matchup
By Brandon Ray
The Buffalo Bills are back on the road after a quick stop in Orchard Park last Sunday. They will head to Indianapolis to take on the now-led Joe Flacco Colts, instead of second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson. The Colts are looking to climb their way back into the AFC South race at 4-5, while the Bills are looking to take an extra step in the AFC East.
This upcoming game feels like one of those matchups where it looks like the Bills should win without any issue, but the complete opposite happens. The Colts are no pushover, despite what their record says. In all of Indianapolis’ games, the final score has ended in more than a touchdown score. Long story short, they play to the final whistle and don’t get pushed around easily.
While the Colts will more than likely give the Bills a little bit of a scare, they won’t be doing it without a key contributor on the offensive line. According to Tom Pelissero, the Colts have lost center Ryan Kelly for atleast four games with him being placed on the IR.
Bills defensive line has an advantage with Ryan Kelly's absence
Ryan Kelly is a solid center in this league and has been part of a solid offensive line in Indianapolis. Him, along with Quenton Nelson have helped the Colts create a true rushing attack with Jonathan Taylor. When the Colts opted to go from Anthony Richardson to Joe Flacco, it opened up the playbook more for the Colts along with the best protection.
Now that the Colts won’t have Kelly present this Sunday, Buffalo needs to take advantage of dominating up the middle of the trenches to either contain Taylor or create interior pressure on Flacco. The center position is a vital spot on the line that doesn’t get talked about enough. Centers are the ones that start the play and they have the most responsibility on the line.
They read the defensive scheme in front of them, have to get the perfect snap off and pick up any blitzes that come their way. The Colts not having Kelly puts them at a weakness and this will allow someone like Ed Oliver to become a big contributor for Buffalo’s defense.
