There are premier positions that NFL teams are always looking to have taken care of. While every position is important somehow, there are certain positions that have more value. You have quarterback, left tackle, edge rusher, wide receiver, and cornerback. The successful teams, like the Buffalo Bills, have most if not all of these positions filled with a star.

The Bills have Josh Allen, Dion Dawkins, newly acquired DJ Moore and Bradley Chubb, and Christian Benford. Out of all of these players, Benford is the one player that is one of the most underrated players who doesn’t get enough respect for what the brings to the defense.

As a former 6th-round pick back in 2022, Benford quickly showed Bills Mafia that he was the better corner that the team drafted that year (the other being Kaiir Elam in the first round). For the past four seasons, Benford has become the Bills’ true CB1 and he even earned votes for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2024.

Benford’s dominance continued last season in which he made some fantastic plays against receivers, or even when he picked off Joe Burrow for a 67-yard touchdown that helped the Bills come back to beat the Bengals last season.

Through four seasons, Benford has only allowed on average 10.8 yards per completion, per Pro Football Reference, and he only allowed a 54.4 % completion percentage against him. Long story short, Benford is one of the best corners in the game. However, he isn’t getting the respect that he deserves.

Christian Benford's impact gets ignored in recent CB power rankings

Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone created a list of the league’s best cornerbacks, yet Benford was left off of it despite him being one of the best in the league. While Scataglia listed quality corners who definitely deserve recognition, to leave someone like Benford off is ridiculous.

Benford is one of those corners that doesn’t say much, he just shows up, does his job (and does it well), and helps Buffalo’s secondary. While the cornerback depth for the Bills needs improvement, there is no doubt that Benford is their star corner and one of the best in the game.

He is consistent and it’s tough for receivers to get past him. Benford did well in Sean McDermott’s defense for years, and now he will be adjusting a bit to what Jim Leonhard wants out of the defense.
