The acquisition of DJ Moore puts the Buffalo Bills in a position where they have to make the trade work. Even though the Bills got a proven No. 1 receiver in Moore, along with a 5th-round pick, they did have to send a 2nd-round pick to the Chicago Bears to make it happen.
A lot of people thought that the Bills overpaid for Moore, but Buffalo needed to give Josh Allen a proven wide receiver who can create an impact. Not only has Moore proved himself to be a reliable weapon, but he is familiar with the offense that Joe Brady runs as he was part of it in Carolina from 2020-2021 when Brady was the offensive coordinator.
With the way the wide receiver room is built, Moore could face pressure to have to carry the room and take pressure off of the offense. While he can certainly do it, it surely won’t be an easy task.
Fans must hope DJ Moore delivers for Bills offense in 2026
Matt Verderame from Sports Illustrated recently listed a reason for each team to “hope” and “mope” after offseason workouts. The “hope” reason for the Bills focused on Josh Allen having an argument of being the best player, and leading the offense with James Cook and DJ Moore.
As for the “mope” reason, it focused on Moore and how if he doesn’t become the receiver that he was in Carolina early on in his career, then the Bills would have to be relying on players like Joshua Palmer and Keon Coleman.
"If [DJ] Moore doesn’t revert to his Carolina form (he’s totaled 1,000 yards once in the past four seasons), the Bills are back to relying on Joshua Palmer and Keon Coleman outside the numbers. That’s the same sore spot Buffalo dealt with a year ago." said Verderame.
Palmer dealt with injuries last season and failed to make an impact in his first year with the Bills. Coleman faced maturity issues that ended up with him becoming a healthy scratch for multiple games. Even though it’s a new season and anything can happen, there is a reason why the Bills traded for Moore.
If Moore can’t deliver in his first season with the Bills, it could very well continue a problem that the Bills have had on offense with the lack of offensive help for Josh Allen. It has cost the Bills plenty of games the last two seasons, and that’s the last thing that fans want to see again.
