When the Buffalo Bills traded up from No. 66 to No. 62, fans were feeling excited because it was clear that the Bills really wanted someone and they didn’t think he would last to their original pick. After drafting T.J. Parker early in the second round, the Bills would then trade up to select cornerback Davison Igbinosun out of Ohio State.

Getting a player from Ohio State is a great get for the Bills, but to have it be a cornerback was head-scratching for fans. While the Bills needed to eventually fill out the cornerback room, they didn’t need to draft one this early on.

After the Bills drafted Igbinosun, general manager Brandon Beane spoke with the media and talked about the Igbinosun pick and why it was made. According to Matthew Bove, Beane talked about Igbinosun’s skillset, specifically his ability when it came to press coverage.

In addition, Beane also talked about the uncertainty of Dorian Strong who suffered a season-ending and possibly career-ending neck injury. He also brought up Tre’Davious White and how he is still a free agent, but Beane had said before the draft that he wouldn’t rule out a potential reunion.

Davison Igbinosun does make sense for Bills, whether fans agree or not

In this league, you really can’t have enough cornerbacks. It’s a passing league and the Bills’ strongest unit on their defense has been their pass-defense. I’m not saying that trading up for Igbinosun in the second round was the most ideal setup for the Bills, but the Bills have a little bit more depth at that position.

Not to mention, Igbinosun’s ability to press receivers and cause disruptions in their routes could be a great factor to have when Buffalo is facing passing situations. There are going to be times when Buffalo's defense is in situations that is going to require great coverage. The more quality depth that they have, the better off they will be.

As the Bills go into Day 3 of the draft, it would not be a surprise to see the Bills go with another corner at some point to keep adding to their room. At the same time, Buffalo has other needs to address on defense. They also have to go out and grab a receiver for Josh Allen.

Brandon Beane and his staff will have one more day to add to this roster, and he must come through after making Bills fans wait to see their first selection take place in the second round rather than the first round.
