The Buffalo Bills are in no place to make any sort of judgement of any other team’s roster, but they do have most of the important positions taken care of. Quarterback, left tackle, and cornerback are all set. While Greg Rousseau is a solid run-stopper off the edge, he’s not a phenomenal pass rusher.
As far as the left tackle, it is typically the most important position on the field as it is a blindside protector for quarterbacks who throw with their right hand. Dion Dawkins has been a solid option for the Bills, and his future in Buffalo should not be messed with at all.
Dawkins is still in his prime and the Bills are set at left tackle. Not every team has the luxury of having a franchise left tackle, especially the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. While the Patriots drafted Will Campbell, he struggled down the stretch and was completely embarrassed in the Super Bowl. New England is rolling with Campbell at LT for now, but we’ll see if that stands.
A pending free agent left tackle that is set to hit the market is Rasheed Walker from the Green Bay Packers, who has the chance to cash in on the market if Green Bay lets him walk. Both Miami and New England were listed as potential landing spots for Walker, per Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone.
While it would make sense for a need, there just might be a chance that one of these division rivals will overpay for Walker's services.
Bills have chance to watch a division rival overspend for free agent LT
While Walker has been great durability wise (playing in every single game the last three years), his position that he plays will command a lot of money and someone is going to pay up. If the Patriots or Dolphins are willing to spend big money, they may miss out on other needs that they need to take care of.
The Dolphins are heading into a rebuild and right now, they don’t have the quarterback situation figured out. Who knows if Walker is willing to go from Green Bay to Miami if he wants to join a contender.
As far as the Patriots, they want to keep working with Campbell on being a left tackle. That itself could keep Walker away from heading to Foxborough. At the same time, if the Patriots were going to push Campbell to guard and have Walker come in as their left tackle, it would take a big financial commitment on New England’s end.
According to Spotrac, Walker’s market value is currently listed at $20.3 million per year, which would end up being the third highest behind Eagles’ Jordan Mailata and Titans’ Dan Moore. If either the Pats or Dolphins want to make that commitment, they would be taking a risk that Bills fans would love to see not pan out for them.
