Even though the Buffalo Bills haven’t been in the Super Bowl in the Josh Allen era, they are still one of the true contenders that have a legitimate chance to make and win it all. The overall defining factor is the quarterback position, and the Bills have the best one in the league in Josh Allen.
While the Bills haven’t always given him the best wide receiver help, Allen has always found a way to elevate the Bills and help them win games that they had no business winning. It also didn't help that the defense fell apart in crucial times in the big moments in the postseason.
For as great as Allen is, there is only so much that he can do, and Sean McDermott found out the hard way when he was fired after yet another defensive collapse in the Divisional Round of the playoffs last year. McDermott being fired was the start of a bunch of changes that were coming within the organization.
Once the Bills made the decision to hire Joe Brady as the new head coach, it was just the first domino to fall. From there on out, new coordinators were brought in, veteran players were let go, and new players have come in that should better fit the overall vision that the Bills have.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t feeling so great about Buffalo’s start to their changes because there was so much uncertainty. However, that all changed once the NFL Draft was completed because the roster felt more full. They had their penciled-in starters, and then they filled out the depth through the draft. With that being said, defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard still believes that more depth could be added.
Despite all the changes that the Bills went through, they are still contenders to go and win the Super Bowl, but Jason La Canfora from FanSided.com doesn't appear to think so.
Bills not being listed as true Super Bowl contenders is unbelievable
La Canfora recently listed six teams that are “truly built to win Super Bowl LXI”, but the Bills weren’t on that list which is just ridiculous considering the foundation that they have built this decade. The six teams that were listed include the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and Denver Broncos.
Then, La Canfora listed four honorable mentions (New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and San Francisco 49ers).
I'm sorry, but how is Buffalo not placed on this list? The changes that were made needed to happen, but the Bills managed to pull of continuity on the offensive side with the hiring of Brady, who has worked closely with Josh Allen since 2022. In addition, Brady now gets a wide receiver in DJ Moore who he worked with in Carolina and some of his best years from 2020-2021.
As for the defense, this unit should vastly improve under Jim Leonhard, who was one of the top defensive coordinator candidates this offseason. The Bills were extremely lucky to get him when they did. He will be bringing a new vision that has more aggression and rushing the passer more than what Sean McDermott had.
Offseason changes with Bills were scary (but necessary)
These offseason changes were very necessary for Buffalo to make, because what they had been doing wasn’t enough. The offense gets an improved wide receiver room to pair with a star quarterback, and a head coach that had been running the offense the last few years. Then you have the defense that brought in players that are a great fit for the new scheme. Not to mention, the intensity level should be a lot higher.
It feels like the Bills were left off this list because of the offseason changes that they went through. That shouldn’t matter because at the end of the day, the Bills still have Josh Allen under center and he is playing great football. As long as he is in his prime, Buffalo will always be a Super Bowl contender.
