This will be the Bills’ first time in nearly a decade where Sean McDermott won’t be leading the Bills out onto the field. After nine seasons that featured plenty of success but no Super Bowl appearances, the Bills moved on from McDermott and promoted Joe Brady as the next head coach.

Expectations are high in Buffalo and while Brady has been in the building since 2022, he is a first time head coach. It’s no secret that he will have the challenges of not just calling the offense but also managing the game overall. Even as a rookie head coach, Brady will be expected to take the Bills further than McDermott ever did and that is a huge task.

With high expectations comes big tasks, and the NFL just turned the pressure up even more on the Bills and Joe Brady for the 2026 season.

NFL gives Bills, Joe Brady little room to mess up in 2026

The pressure is officially on for Brady and the Bills now that their schedule is out. Right out of the gate, the Bills are heading down to Houston to take on a Texans team that punished the Bills last year in a 23-19 win. Then they have to turn around very quickly to get ready for their new stadium debut game in primetime against the Detroit Lions.

Buffalo will then have back-to-back west coast matchups from Week 5 to Week 6, in which the Bills are on primetime in Week 5 in LA and then have to play Las Vegas in Week 6. Then from Week 12-Week 16, the Bills will be taking on the Chiefs, Patriots, Packers, Bears, and the Broncos. Four out of those five matchups are in primetime and three of them are on the road.

The Bills do have some breaks in their schedule (being home three of the first four games), but they face a big uphill battle throughout this coming season. Fans are going to be excited for the start of the season, but Buffalo has little to no room to fall apart even just a little bit.
