Bills' most criticized offseason move is exactly what the offense needs

Bills Mafia has had to watch the offense for the Buffalo Bills lose games the last two seasons due to the offense failing to get consistent production from their wide receiver room. The 2023 season was the last time the Bills had a well-balanced wide receiver group that had a No. 1 receiver in Stefon Diggs.

After the Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans and let Gabe Davis walk in free agency (eventually signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars), Buffalo had a big need at wide receiver. Since then, they have had notable receivers like Mack Hollins, Amari Cooper, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman. None of them worked out greatly (Coleman and Palmer could still surprise fans).

Khalil Shakir is a solid slot receiver, but he is not a No. 1 option in the offense. After facing countless critics of not having a true No. 1 receiver, the Bills went out and fixed that issue by trading for DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears.

Even though the addition of Moore is clearly an upgrade, the move was centered around both Buffalo’s best and worst offseason that the team made.

DJ Moore acquisition is exactly what Bills needed, even with what they had to give up

Cody Williams from FanSided recently gave the Bills a report card grade of C+ and listed the trade for Moore as both the best, and worst move that Buffalo pulled off. What?!

"Two things can be true for the Buffalo Bills this offseason: It was completely necessary for the franchise to trade for a player of DJ Moore's caliber given the state of the receiver room, but they also might've overpaid to do so. Moore will certainly help Josh Allen get back to an even higher form this season, but one does have to wonder if the Bills actually did enough this offseason to, much like the Ravens, actually get over the hump." said Williams.

Moore gets his old offensive play caller back in Joe Brady, and gets Josh Allen as his quarterback. It’s a major win for him. As for Buffalo, they get someone who has experience being the No. 1 target in an offense. The last two seasons in Chicago, Moore’s production has dropped but it wasn’t because of his ability to get open.

Chicago had a ton of pass catchers that Caleb Williams had to throw to and one player was bound to not be as super impactful. Moore now comes into Buffalo as the clear-cut first option for Josh Allen.

That second round pick that everyone was upset about that Buffalo traded away? In the end, it didn’t matter because through all of the navigating trades during the NFL Draft, the Bills ended up making two second-round picks.

The trade for Moore was necessary and a splash for the Bills. He is exactly what the Bills have been missing and now he will get the chance to thrive with the best quarterback in the league in front of Bills Mafia.
