The NFL trade deadline has come and gone and the Buffalo Bills, much to fans' chagrin, didn't make any moves. It was a frustrating moment for fans, as this team had needs but Brandon Beane and the front office clearly felt it wasn't worth swinging for the fences over.
One big need the Bills had (and still have, if we're being honest) is at wide receiver. It might not seem like the team is desperate for help there now, considering that Josh Allen is still Josh Allen and last year he didn't have a superstar at the position and went on to win MVP.
To play devil's advocate there, shouldn't the Bills add help for that very reason? Shouldn't they give Allen the most help possible so that there are no excuses in January and February? Plus, it's not like there weren't receivers available to add. Jakobi Meyers ended up in Jacksonville, Rashid Shaheed ended up in Seattle, and the Bills were linked to Deebo Samuel. Why not bring in any of those guys?
Not adding WR help at trade deadline could cost Bills down the stretch
The Bills didn't have a superstar receiver last year and made it all the way to the AFC Championship but, as we all know, they were unable to win that game. This year, they will have an uphill battle to even have a home game in the playoffs, as the Patriots look like the real deal and could end up winning the division unless the Bills are able to overtake them in the standings. A wide receiver via trade would have helped tipped the scale in Buffalo's favor there.
It was irritating to see the team sit on their hands and not add the help that Allen and the rest of the offense desperately needs but they obviously felt confident in what they had. While fans will hope that Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and the tight ends can continue to get it done, if the Bills come up short again this season, the lack of movement at the trade deadline will certainly be discussed as a reason why.
