When the news about the Buffalo Bills firing Sean McDermott became public, it caused a ton of reactions from fans and players. It was no secret that the immediate reaction was utter shock. It probably caused a lot more reaction from people that didn’t say anything publicly as well.
When there is a big change in the front office or a coaching staff of a team, changes of other positions are right behind. That’s when staff members are either told that they won’t be coming back, or they could leave on their own.
Not very long after McDermott was fired by the Bills, now-former special teams coordinator Chris Tabor was the next coach to leave the Bills as he was hired by the Miami Dolphins for the same position. Losing Tabor was a massive loss considering that he cleaned up the mess that Matthew Smiley created, and Ray Davis became a First-Team All-Pro kick returner.
However, with new head coach Joe Brady bringing in his staff, the Bills have hired a new special teams coordinator in Jeff Rodgers, who is coming over from the Arizona Cardinals in the same role, per Dianna Russini.

Bills get key STC hire taken care of with Jeff Rodgers
Rodgers comes to Buffalo with a ton of coaching experience, especially on special teams. This is great news for Buffalo considering the fact that special teams has been the reason why the Bills have been able to stay in games because of the effectiveness of their special teams.
Hiring Rodgers gives the Bills leadership on that aspect of the ball, and the hope is that their special teams can be similar, or even better than what Tabor put together. No one expected Davis to shine as a kick returner for Buffalo in 2025. Now the expectation is that he will continue to be.
In addition, Rodgers will now be tasked to work with whoever is kicking field goals, whether it’s Tyler Bass or someone else. Matt Prater was solid for the Bills, but Bass should be back on the field after missing all of last season with an injury.
This is the third known hiring for Brady, as he has hired a new offensive line coach in Pat Meyer and an offensive coordinator in Pete Carmichael. The staff keeps on growing and there are still plenty of more moves to be made.
