Yesterday, the Buffalo Bills introduced Joe Brady as their next head coach and the team is going into a new era. While there are certainly risks, Brady knows the players, the staff, and he knows Buffalo. He’s been here since 2022 and now he is the one in charge.

Brady’s biggest task is to start building up his staff, especially with coaches who were here under Sean McDermott are no longer here, such as Bobby Babich who is now with the Packers per Tom Pelissero.

After yesterday’s press conference, the Bills reportedly hired Steelers’ offensive line coach Pat Meyer to be their offensive line coach. Meyer and Brady worked together in Carolina, per Ian Rapoport. Now, the Bills have hired their next offensive coordinator in Pete Carmichael, according to Rapoport.

Joe Brady makes solid hire to get revenge on Sean Payton from Bills' playoff loss

Much like Pat Meyer, there is a connection between Brady and Carmichael. The two worked together down in New Orleans under Sean Payton, and then Carmichael eventually landed in Denver under Payton. Now he’s coming to Buffalo.

Now granted, Joe Brady is still set to call the plays, per Sal Capaccio, which was expected. With what Brady has been able to do with this offense with limited playmakers, whoever the offensive coordinator was going to be for Buffalo wouldn’t be as heavily involved in the playcalling, but the alignment and familiarity is there.

This is the start for building up Brady’s staff, but we know that the biggest thing he has to do is bring in a strong defensive coordinator to come in and fix this defense. While Brady is now the head coach and it’s his job to oversee everything, he needs someone who can elevate this defense and he can focus on the offensive playcalling.

It’s a solid start for Brady landing Carmichael, especially coming from the Sean Payton coaching tree. There’s no doubt that Payton has a ton of knowledge and his assistants have picked up some things along the way, Brady included.

Now we just sit back and wait to see what other moves Brady makes in order to set the players up for success.
