Bills make NFL history once again with unique 5th straight AFC East title
By Brandon Ray
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are the biggest winners coming out of Week 13. Not only did the Bills defeat the San Francisco 49ers 35-10 to clinch the AFC East for the 5th consecutive season, but Allen did it in style. In the dominant performance, Allen threw, ran, and caught a touchdown pass. His MVP-like performance is the reason why the Bills are celebrating today knowing that come playoff time, they will be hosting atleast one playoff game.
Since 2020, the Bills have been the top team in the division and that’s not going anywhere anytime soon. This was the season for a team like New York Jets or Miami Dolphins to take it away because of the roster overhaul the Bills had this past offseason. Instead, the Bills have run away with the AFC East and we still have five games left in the regular season. Buffalo now turns their attention to taking the No. 1 seed in the AFC from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Allen was setting records on Sunday night and the Bills have also entered the history books themselves with this win. According to OptaSTATS, the Bills are the only team in NFL history to clinch their division more than one week prior to playing a division opponent for the first time in a season. The Bills have yet to play the New England Patriots, where the first matchup will take place in Week 16.
Buffalo Bills continue to make history in 2024
The Bills were one of the most talked about teams last offseason and not for the greatest reasons. With their losses they had with key veterans, the Bills looked like they were going to take a step back and the AFC East was going to go somewhere else. Sean McDermott and Josh Allen had other plans and now the Bills are a top three team in the entire league and the rest of the AFC East is down bad.
Things are better than ever for the Bills right now and the talent they have is not to the same level it has been in prior years. This team has shown to be disciplined, selfless and everyone does their job in crucial moments.
