The NFL kicked off Wednesday morning with the breaking news from Adam Schefter that wide receiver George Pickens was being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys. It’s been a matter of when, not if Pickens was going to be out of Pittsburgh. There has tension between Pickens and the Steelers. Now they both a fresh start.
Coming out of college, Pickens was an intriguing prospect. He’s a bigger receiver who has never had under 800 yards in a season despite the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh being a little shaky. However, he has shown immaturity in his time in Pittsburgh but Dallas is willing to deal with it as they are now pairing him with CeeDee Lamb.
The Buffalo Bills did not need someone like Pickens, plain and simple. They have a crowded room at wide receiver and not to mention, they just signed wideout Elijah Moore this past week. Buffalo does not need another wide receiver at this point. However, not everyone seems to think that.
Recent list involving George Pickens and Bills is completely laughable
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone listed three teams “who will regret big-time” not trading for Pickens and for some reason, the Bills are the first ones on the list.
"The Buffalo Bills did add Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore this offseason, so they made an effort to raise the floor of the WR room and solidify it overall. Would they have benefited from another tall WR like Pickens? They do have Keon Coleman, who caught 29 of his 57 targets for 556 yards during his rookie season."Lou Scataglia, NFL Spin Zone
"A trio of Coleman, Shakir, and Pickens really would have been nearly unstoppable for the Bills, as they also have Dawson Knox, Dalton Kincaid, and James Cook. This trade really would have been about 'the rich getting richer,' and it would have been a neat move for this front office to make."Lou Sciatalgia, NFL Spin Zone
The last thing the Bills need is another big receiver. However, with the news of wide recevier Gabe Davis being released by the Jaguars, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Bills potentially make a move to bring him back. Like Pickens, Davis is a bigger receiver and knows the offense from his time with the Bills.
Not to mention, the Bills did not need to trade away draft capital for a receiver who is going into a career year and has shown to be quite the character despite being a solid player. Buffalo did the right move by not making one to bring Pickens to the Bills.
