When the Buffalo Bills went through their massive roster overhaul last offseason, one of the decisions that they made was to not bring back wide receiver Gabe Davis, who had one of the best playoff performances in 2022 against the Kansas City Chiefs (8 catches, 201 yards, 4 touchdowns).

The Bills drafted Davis in the 4th round in 2020 out of Central Florida and paired him with Stefon Diggs to give the Bills one of the best passing attacks in the early 2020s. However, Davis was a major hit or miss player for Buffalo. He either was the reason why the Bills put up a lot of points on the board, or was nowhere to be found.

His inconsistency was too much to take a risk on bringing him back and instead of coming back to Buffalo, Davis signed a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Davis expressed how much he wanted to be back in Florida and signing him to give Trevor Lawrence a bigger receiver on the outside made a lot of sense. Granted, it was a lot of money for a player that has never had 900+ receiving yards in a season.

Bills decision to let Gabe Davis walk in 2024 continues to show brilliance of front office

In a shocking move, that might not be as shocking as we think, the Jaguars have released Davis after just one season according to Adam Schefter. He played in just ten games and only had 239 yards and two touchdowns as a member of the Jaguars. Now he hits free agency looking for his third team of his career.

Who knows…maybe, just maybe, Brandon Beane decides to make the call to see if Davis would be interested in a reunion. Afterall, Davis saw the success the Bills had without him so maybe he will want to be part of that.

The only thing is that the Bills signed Elijah Moore this past week and the Bills already have bigger receivers with Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer. Logistically, maybe it doesn’t make sense for Davis to come back to Buffalo. However, the Bills could pounce on the idea of bringing Davis back atleast for training camp competition, if not more.
