The Buffalo Bills have had a successful free agency so far with the biggest and best moves including (but not limited to) Josh Allen signing an extension and Joey Bosa joining the pass rush. While it's fun to see the Bills be active in free agency, losing players is part of the game too.
The Bills said good-bye to Von Miller already and now they've lost another defensive free agent, as Casey Toohill has signed with the Houston Texans on a one-year deal, according to Aaron Wilson.
Some might hear this news and not even know who Toohill is, but the fact of the matter is whenever a player leaves a team, there is typically a sense of disappointment. You want every player to work out and Toohill was no exception to that rule but after only playing 249 defensive snaps, it's safe to say the Bills will be okay without Toohill on the roster next year.
Bills lose Casey Toohill to Texans in free agency
A seventh-round pick out of Stanford in 2020, Toohill initially landed with the Eagles and didn't play in Philadelphia long before spending time with Washington during his rookie season as well. He made it work in Washington for four seasons but in 2024, signed a short-term deal with the Bills, and well, now you're caught up on his NFL career.
Toohill appeared in 14 regular season games and had 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one quarterback hit during that time. He was cut from the team in mid-December but stuck around on the practice squad. He was not active for any of the Bills' three playoff games.
It's never fun to lose players but the Bills defense should be just fine without Toohill in 2025 and beyond. Best of luck to him in Houston though.
