One of the biggest moves that the Buffalo Bills made last offseason was trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans while also taking ona $30 million+ dead cap hit in order to obtain a 2025 second-round pick. The Bills traded for Diggs in the 2020 offseason with the acquisition of him, the Bills took a major step forward in becoming the powerhouse that they are now.
However, things started to get rocky at the end of the 2022 season after the playoffs when reported tension started to come out between Diggs and the Bills. After the end of the 2023 season, the Bills finally decided to make the move to send Diggs to Houston.
Diggs played in just eight games with the Texans before tearing his ACL which ended his tenure with Houston early on. It was the first time since 2017 where Diggs did not reach over 1,000 receiving yards. However, despite the ACL tear, Diggs looks like he might be ready to go for Week 1 but nothing has been confirmed just yet. The New England Patriots believe that he can be a big-time contributor as they signed him to a three-year deal to catch passes from Drake Maye.
If he indeed will play the whole or a majority of the season, then he just might be ready for Week 5 for when the Patriots come to Buffalo for a primetime matchup.
Stefon Diggs will make his return to Buffalo in Week 5
So, not only do the Patriots come to Buffalo early on, but the Bills get the chance to embarrass Diggs and the Patriots on national television. While New England is no pushover, they aren’t as strong as the Bills and Buffalo will have the chance to make Diggs re-think about the mistake he made by coming back to the AFC East.
There is no love between the Bills and Diggs and now with this early on Week 5 Sunday Night Football showdown in Orchard Park, Bills Mafia is definitely not going to give Diggs a friendly welcome back.
