The 2025 offseason was always going to be an important one for the Buffalo Bills. They have been a legit contender in the AFC for the past five years, but they need to take that last step to get over the hump. And with a bunch of vital contracts coming up, it was always going to be fascinating to see how the front office for the Bills would handle those deals.
Buffalo wasted no time this offseason extending their young talent, getting deals done with key contributors on both sides of the ball. They also managed to take care of their MVP, giving Josh Allen a new deal to ensure that he will spend his entire prime in Buffalo.
But Buffalo didn’t just keep their own. They also added some proven veterans in free agency including Joey Bosa, Josh Palmer, Elijah Moore, and Michael Hoecht. The hope is that a few of these veterans can help fill in the gaps, improving the talent in the middle of the roster.
Just how much did the roster improve this offseason In a recent article by Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus, he graded every team’s offseason moves after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bills did very well, earning an A- from Sikkema after a successful draft and free agency period. Here is a snippet of what Sikkema had to say about the Bills’ offseason:
"The Bills’ top priority in free agency was handing out contract extensions to their core players, and Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, Christian Benford, Josh Allen and Khalil Shakir cashed in. They signed Josh Palmer — the right type of receiver to bring in, as he earned a 90.5 PFF receiving grade on targets of 20 or more yards last season."Trevor Sikkema, Pro Football Focus
The Bills have a very talented roster, and the front office was wise to keep their young talent on affordable deals. Buffalo is hopeful that players like Gregory Rousseau, Christian Benford, and Khalil Shakir can continue their upward progression and take their games to the next level.
It is worth pointing out that Sikkema did knock Buffalo’s grade down from an A to an A- because of the safety duo of Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin, who are projected to start once again. Buffalo could use another veteran safety, but the hope is that Cole Bishop, a second-round pick from 2024 can eventually become a full-time starter.
However, Buffalo’s roster is significantly improved from the end of the 2024 season and the hope is that players like Keon Coleman, Bishop, and Dorian Williams can help get this team over the hump. This was a widely successful offseason for the Bills, and it sure feels like this could be their best shot at winning the Super Bowl in franchise history.
