After spending a year away from the AFC East, former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs is signing with the New England Patriots. Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots and Diggs have agreed on a three-year, $69 million deal worth $26 million.

Diggs was traded to the Bills in 2020 and had the best years of his career when Josh Allen was throwing him the ball. He went over 1,000 receiving yards his entire tenure with Buffalo and had no less than 154 targets each season. Being the main go-to guy for Allen, Diggs helped elevate the Bills offense without question.

However, once things started to get tough for Buffalo, there was reported tension between Diggs and the Bills at the end of the 2022 season. It continued along and then once the Bills discovered that they could win without him, the pairing was no longer needed. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady wanted to operate an “everybody eats” mentality on offense and that didn’t include Diggs.

The Bills would end up trading Diggs away to the Houston Texans and took on a dead cap hit of over $30 million. That alone should tell you what the relationship between Diggs and the Bills was.

He would only play in eight games with the Texans before tearing his ACL which sidelined him for a majority of the 2024 season. For the first time in his career, he hit free agency and he kicked it off by visiting the New England Patriots. Now he is joining them and will see the Bills this season.

Patriots signing Stefon Diggs should make Bills fans laugh outloud

At 31-years old and coming off a torn ACL, along with having a history of not getting along with teams, Diggs being signed by the Patriots is a massive mistake for New England. However, Bills fans should be loving this signing.

Now granted, bringing Diggs in provides an immediate upgrade for their receiving room. At the same time, players don’t usually bounce back as fast right after a major injury. Not to mention, Drake Maye is only going into his second year at quarterback. Bills fans could very well see Maye regress because of him forcing the ball to Diggs instead of spreading the ball around to the rest of the offense.

Who knows if Diggs will actually play twice this year against the Bills. If he does though, you can expect Bills Mafia to truly express how they may feel about him and his departure.
