Josh Allen is on his way to being a Hall of Famer with the career that he has had up to this point. He doesn’t just break records, there are times where he creates history. He has thrown passing touchdowns, ran for a lot, and he even has receiving touchdowns in his career. You could certainly make the case that we have never seen a quarterback in the history of the NFL like Allen.
When the Bills traded up for him in the 2018 NFL Draft, the hope was that he would become the face of the franchise and deliver a Super Bowl to Western New York. He has given Bills Mafia lots of unforgettable memories and he has helped turn the franchise around.
There is just one thing that separates Allen from a lot of the great quarterbacks both in the league and in the past…Allen has yet to make it to the Super Bowl, let alone win one. Now granted, it’s not all his fault as to why a Lombardi trophy hasn’t been delivered to Buffalo. At the same time, he is the main factor to look at when the Bills fall short every year in the playoffs.
Bills fans get reality thrown at them with harsh stat
Matt Okada from NFL.com listed a “defining number” for each team heading into the 2026 season. When it came to the Bills, they were given a number of 15, which focuses on how many playoff games the Bills have had with Josh Allen under center without a Super Bowl appearance.
"Bills history has unfortunately become defined by “close but no cigar” seasons. Recently, that includes 15 playoff games in the Josh Allen era … all without a Super Bowl appearance. For context, each of the other five teams to play double-digit postseason games in that span have made at least one Super Bowl (and won six combined). Entering Allen’s age-30 season, it candidly feels like Super Bowl or bust for this squad." said Okada.
Having a quarterback like Allen, in his prime, and not having a Super Bowl appearance is beyond unbelievable. No one is surprised to see quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Joe Burrow be in the Super Bowl. What is surprising to see is watching a Super Bowl that features quarterbacks like Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold, and Drake Maye all before Allen makes his first one.
The Super Bowl window for the Bills isn’t closed, nor is it close to being shut. At the same time, Allen isn’t getting any younger and with a new coaching regime coming into the picture, led by Joe Brady, they will need to be the ones that can lead the Bills to the promise land with Allen under center.
