Two of the best players in the NFL are on the Buffalo Bills, with both of them being on the same side of the ball. Josh Allen isn’t just the Bills’ best player, he is the best quarterback in the league no matter what anyone says. He is dynamic and has shown that he can carry the Bills when they need him the most.
Then there is running back James Cook, who has established himself as one of the best backs in the league after leading the league in rushing touchdowns in 2024 (16) and in rushing yards in 2025 (1,621 yards). Cook has taken a ton of pressure off of the offense and has allowed Allen to take a step back from having to always carry the Bills.
This duo has been a driving factor to Buffalo having one of the best offensive units in the league. With the wide receiver room being weak in recent memory, Buffalo has had to rely more on Cook’s ability to establish the run and let Allen take over has "Superman" in crucial moments.
While the addition of DJ Moore on the outside should help out a bit, the duo of Allen and Cook is still the best one that the Bills have by a mile.
Josh Allen/James Cook duo placed in great spot in power rankings list (but it's not great enough)
Lou Scataglia from NFL Spin Zone recently ranked the NFL’s best offensive duos heading into the 2026 season, and the duo of Josh Allen and James Cook was ranked at No. 4 which is not bad whatsoever, but it’s definitely a little low when you think about the factors that go into what makes each player so great.
The duos that were listed ahead of Allen and Cook were Joe Burrow & Ja’Marr Chase, Sam Darnold & Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and at the top was Matthew Stafford & Puka Nacua.
"Josh Allen and James Cook are No. 4 in our power rankings. Allen is one of the best dual-threat passers in NFL history, and it seems like James Cook gets better each year. Cook led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last year and then led the league in rushing yards this year." said Scataglia.
"Cook finished with 1,912 scrimmage yards in 2025, and Allen's ability as a prolific passer and as a runner has made him an elite threat and legitimate weapon for years now. It's hard to find a better duo than this, but we have a few ranked ahead of them." Scataglia added.
Even though the Seahawks are coming off a Super Bowl win, I have an extremely tough time putting Darnold as part one of the top duos ahead of Allen. While Smith-Njigba was by far the best receiver in football last season, he helped Darnold make the big plays.
Either way, this power ranking of Allen and Cook shows the greatness that Buffalo’s offense has, but it doesn’t reflect what they have done for the offense for the past two seasons together. Now with Joe Brady being elevated to head coach, fans are hoping that the offense, led by Allen and Cook, will elevate even more.
