The New England Patriots were once a team that no matter who they added at wide receiver, that player was going to become a household name. It didn't matter if the guy was a former seventh-round pick who played quarterback in college or even spent time playing lacrosse, the Patriots knew how to get the absolute best out of their receivers in the biggest moments.

Fortunately, we're far past those days now, much to the delight of Buffalo Bills fans. The Patriots have struggled to find dependable wide receivers and it's even better that that's the case for Bills fans considering New England actually might have a decent quarterback now in Drake Maye.

ESPN named wide receiver the Patriots' most intriguing position battle at training camp this summer and it's hard for Bills fans not to laugh at that. The names mentioned in Mike Reiss' blurb are Stefon Diggs, Kayson Boutte, DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Mack Hollins, Ja'Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, and Efton Chism III. Aside from the obvious names there, most of you probably said, "Who? after reading most of those names.

Patriots look destined to fail at WR position once again

Bills fans obviously recognize two names in that batch for the Patriots with those being Diggs and Hollins, both of whom have joined the AFC East rivals this season. Diggs was traded by Buffalo to the Texans last year but was injured midway through the season and now is hoping to revamp his career in New England.

As for Hollins, he began training camp on the PUP list but returned to practice this week. Bills fans know what both of these receivers are capable of but the rest of the guys on the Patriots' roster are a whole lot of unproven or unknown (or maybe a combination of both).

No matter who ends up making it onto the Patriots final roster at wide receiver, Bills fans can probably already predict how things are going to go there. Between Diggs' flare for the dramatics and the rest of the unproven guys on the roster, hopefully, the Patriots offense crashes and burns in a big way this season.
