Bills fans better think twice before blaming Sean McDermott for loss to Rams
By Brandon Ray
There is going to be the blame game for the next couple of days on why the Buffalo Bills lost in a thriller against the Los Angeles Rams. In a game that ended with both offensive units combining for 902 total yards, 11 touchdowns, 53 first downs, and no sacks (per PFF), the Bills came out on the wrong side of NFL history losing 44-42.
Josh Allen’s MVP season continued on in this electric matchup, recording six total touchdowns and throwing for over 300+ yards while also leading the Bills with 82 rushing yards. After being down by 17 points in the second quarter, the Bills never quit...atleast the offense didn’t.
When the Bills lose, one of the first individuals that people typically blame is the head coach. Don’t get me wrong, Sean McDermott has been responsible for some tough losses that Buffalo has had. There’s no denying that his clock an game management skills are not always the best. However, no one is perfect. The difference is, making those mistakes while having a star quarterback is inexcusable.
For this game against the Rams, Bills fans should think twice before putting the blame on McDermott. That's right, McDermott deserves very little blame if any.
Bobby Babich, Buffalo Bills defense is to heavily blame for Week 14 loss
Last I checked, McDermott is not the one on the field playing defense and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich is the one sending out the plays on the field. This defense for the Bills was atrocious and they couldn’t stop a nosebleed against the Rams. They made the Rams punt just once and they never truly pressured Matthew Stafford. For a defense to give up 457 yards, that's on the defense as a whole and the defensive coordinator.
Say what you want about McDermott’s clock management on the Bills’ final offensive drive where he called a timeout at the goaline rather than hurrying up to run a play. Or even when he accepted a penalty on the Rams in the fourth quarter that ultimately kept the Rams’ offense on the field. They wouldn’t have been in the situation if the defense showed up and stopped them more than one time in four quarters.
I’m not saying that McDermott doesn’t deserve some blame, but to put this loss on McDermott completely is not right.
