I realize it’s July and training camp is the biggest thing to focus on for the Buffalo Bills, but it’s never too early to examine the college talent that could be coming into the league next year. Barring a major collapse, the Bills are expected to be picking near or at the end of the first round because they are destined to make the playoffs and go on a run.
Going into next season looking at the roster now, there aren't a ton of big needs that the Bills will need to address. Maybe they’ll be looking to get another linebacker if 2025 does become Matt Milano’s last season in Buffalo. At the same time, adding depth never hurts either, especially on the offensive line (but maybe not spending a first round pick on it).
2026 NFL mock draft has Bills adding versatility depth on offensive line
Matt Miller of ESPN.com recently published a very early 2026 NFL mock draft and at No. 32 in the first round (potentially a sign of the Bills winning their first Super Bowl), Buffalo selected Florida offensive lineman Jake Slaughter. Here’s a bit on what Miller said about Slaughter:
"Slaughter didn't allow a sack last season and was penalized only twice. He's already pro-sized at 6-foot-5, 308 pounds and is a clean pass protector with strength, quickness and great awareness. Slaughter has the athletic profile to play guard or center in the NFL at a high level."Matt Miller, ESPN
Adding offensive linemen to a team is never a bad thing at all, especially when you have the best quarterback in the league. If this pick were to come true, there are a few things to consider. Would he replace Connor McGovern at center? Maybe he competes with David Edwards for the left guard position? Or, will he sit for a little bit, learn the speed of the game and then eventually get a chance to start?
The versatility factor is something important to monitor because the Bills absolutely love players who can play multiple positions, especially in the trenches. While the Gators have fallen down a bit over the last couple of years, Slaughter is a bright spot for them and any NFL team would be lucky to have someone like him.
