The Buffalo Bills had one of their best offseasons under the current regime as they have bulked up their defense and have added receivers for Josh Allen on the offense. Brandon Beane recognized the weakness coming out of the playoffs and he put his best foot forward in free agency and the draft.

In addition, they have kept continuity in the coaching staff as Joe Brady is back calling the plays for the offense and Bobby Babich is heading into his second season as the defensive coordinator. There was speculation that Brady was going to leave Buffalo for a head coaching job after he helped Buffalo average 30+ points per game in 2024, but he’s back for atleast one more season.

Under Brady, the Bills have developed and implemented an “everybody eats” type of offense, meaning that there is no one true star that gets all the glory. One of those players that had a strong first year under Brady and could even take a further step forward is running back Ray Davis.

Ray Davis might be ready to show he can be Bills' RB1 for future

Buffalo drafted Davis in the fourth round of the 2024 draft out of Kentucky and he has shown to be a great complimentary back to James Cook, who is in the middle of a contract dispute with the organization. Cook wants to get his money (north of $15 million) but there is no sign that the Bills are willing to pay that kind of money, especially since they operate their running back room within a committee.

Last season as a rookie, Davis showed glimpses of being great as he rushed for 442 yards (on 113 carries) and had six total touchdowns. He also added 189 yards in the passing attack.

Even though Cook has already said that he plans on being at training camp next month, his backup might be the rising star that no one is talking about. He averaged 3.9 yards per carry and is great in pass protection while he can also catch passes down the field.

While the focus will be mostly on Josh Allen when the offense is on the field this season, fans should be keeping an eye on Davis as he could potentially be the Bills’ starter out of the backfield in 2026 if Cook doesn’t return to Buffalo after this season.
