Training camp will kick off for the Buffalo Bills tomorrow up at St. John Fisher University which signals the start of the season coming up very soon. Before we get to the Week 1 excitement where the Bills will clash with the Baltimore Ravens, the Bills will first go through training camp and the preseason to see who will be on the final roster for the regular season.
Each player will be evaluated by the coaching staff and front office. Now we obviously know who the guaranteed locks are like Josh Allen, Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard, and Christian Benford. However, there are more unguaranteed players heading into this training camp just because of the revamp of the defense this offseason.
Brandon Beane wasn’t messing around when he brought in all sorts of defensive help both in the trenches and in the secondary. There could be more training camp competition than we’ve ever had under this regime.
Training camp competition could put S Damar Hamlin on roster bubble
One position that the Bills addressed early on in free agency was safety. They already had Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop on the roster (who are the presumed starters for Week 1). Then Buffalo brought back Damar Hamlin and signed former Washington Commander Darrick Forrest, who could be a big-time steal for the Bills.
The thing with the signings of Hamlin and Forrest is that they both only received one-year deals for a cheap price so it is an easy setup for the Bills to potentially release either of them. Hamlin, who has become a fan-favorite in Buffalo, knows the scheme better than Forrest and has been part of the team the last four seasons.
However, Forrest is a better overall player and he had a strong start to his career in Washington until injuries popped up on him. That’s one of the only reasons why he isn’t back in Washington.
Due to the fact that Forrest is more of a physical player than Hamlin, that could give him an edge over Hamlin which could easily put Hamlin in roster trouble before Week 1.
