The Buffalo Bills will soon have a new head coach, though the burden of waiting to see who it will be rests uncomfortably with Bills Mafia. Still, as the announcement draws near, fans are beginning to get a better idea of who it might be.
Unsurprisingly, it looks like the Bills will be looking to pair quarterback Josh Allen up with an offensive-minded head coach. On top of that, it could be with someone whom he is already quite familiar with. In some ways, that’s comforting, but in others, it draws out the deepest fears within the fanbase. Which side of the coin Bills fans’ feelings fall on the matter depends on the candidate.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter gave an update on the top candidates for the open job in Buffalo, and coaches on each side of that proverbial coin are present.
Adam Schefter hints at direction Buffalo Bills could take with next head coach
Schefter told The Pat McAfee Show on Monday that he “feels” as though the Bills will go offense with their head coaching hire, which comes as no surprise to the Mafia. But Schefter also named the top four candidates he “feels” are at the top of the Bills’ list: Davis Webb, Brian Daboll, Joe Brady or Grant Udinski.

Schefter used the word ‘feels’, but don’t discredit that word choice. His feeling is based on his sources, not just abstract thought.
That said, if these are the top four candidates, then the Bills could be closing in on a decision sooner rather than later. And if that’s the case, then it would appear that Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane won’t be waiting on Seattle Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak to become available for an interview after the Super Bowl.
Of course, when it comes to the candidates, Bills fans are understandably divided. Each of these four coaches brings their own risks. For Webb, Brady and Udinski, it’s a lack of experience. For Daboll, it’s a lack of positive experience as a head coach.

Still, each carries a strong resume. Daboll helped Allen kick-start his career. Brady coached Allen to his first MVP. Webb helped Bo Nix thrive in Denver, and Udinski has done the same with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville.
Regardless, it seems these are the candidates that Bills Mafia should familiarize themselves with the most this week. One of them just might be the Bills’ head coach by the end of it.
