It’s been quite the week for the Buffalo Bills. It was just a week ago where they were flying to Denver to battle the Broncos in the divisional round. It’s safe to say that a week later, a lot of people didn’t think that Buffalo would be in the current state that they are in.
Instead of reflecting back on what went wrong this season and figuring out immediate steps to make, the Bills made national news by firing Sean McDermott on Monday morning. Since then, there has been a disastrous press conference from Terry Pegula and Brandon Beane, and the team has been interviewing candidates.
They have already interviewed Joe Brady, Brian Daboll and Lou Anarumo. Now, they are set to interview Mike McDaniel, Anthony Lynn, Anthony Weaver, and Grant Udinski this weekend. Lynn, Weaver, and Udinski were known earlier as candidates for the job. Albert Breer reported early this morning that the Bills were going to interview McDaniel.
Going back to the press conference, there was a ton of confusion and tension for sure. However, one constant thing that has been reported that was mentioned in the press conference is that quarterback Josh Allen has been part of the interviews, per Dianna Russini.
Josh Allen has been part of the HC search committee for Bills
When it was mentioned by Pegula that Allen would be part of the interview process, it’s easy to think that it’s a smart move. While it can be, it is a risk at the same time. The Bills have to do what’s best for the team overall, not just Allen. If Buffalo goes down a route that makes Allen happy but it’s not what is best for the team, then the Bills could really cost themselves big time moving forward.
I get it, Allen is the face of the franchise. But he is not the whole team. This team needs someone who can support everyone equally, not just the top player.
