The Buffalo Bills will indeed be getting ready for an actual game of football this week as they are set to host the Carolina Panthers this Saturday at 1PM at the new Highmark Stadium. It will be the first game that is hosted in the new stadium, and fans can’t wait to see what this overall new team will look like under Joe Brady.
Training camp is over with, and now the players on the Bills’ roster will finally get to show what they can do and prove to the coaching staff they belong on the final 53-man roster. One of the toughest parts of the job of the coaching staff is deciding who and who will not be on the final roster. Nearly half of the guys that are currently on the roster won’t be there come September.
Going into Saturday’s preseason game, there are three Bills players who not only face pressure to succeed this preseason, but they face immediate pressure otherwise they could be off the roster sooner than later.
3 Bills already in danger of losing roster spot in preseason
C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
The Bills re-signed Connor McGovern to a four-year deal this offseason, making him the team’s franchise center moving forward. Even though the Bills drafted Sedrick Van Pran-Granger in 2024, he is now officially just a backup in Buffalo. Later on in free agency, the Bills signed Lloyd Cushenberry who came from the Tennessee Titans.
If Pran-Granger can’t compete well against Cushenberry this preseason, it would not be a surprise to see the Bills move on from him whether it’s releasing him or trading him to another team to get a draft pick in return.
OLB Mike Danna
Coming over from the rival Kansas City Chiefs, Mike Danna is a quality edge rusher who has plenty of proven experience on a championship winning team. The only problem is that the Bills loaded up on outside linebackers this offseason. They didn’t just move last year’s edge rushers to the outside linebacker position, but they also brought in Bradley Chubb and drafted T.J. Parker in the second round.
Danna could very well have a solid preseason, but since he is only on a one-year deal with the Bills, there is a good chance that he might be on the outside looking in if other players around him compete at the same level as him.
P Mitch Wishnowsky
The Bills dealt with a ton of punter change last season until they got Mitch WIshnowsky in the building. While they did bring him back on a one-year deal in free agency, the team did draft University of Florida punter Tommy Doman Jr. who seems to have the lead for the starting punter job, per ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg.
"The punting job remains Tommy Doman Jr.'s to lose. With Wishnowsky out, Doman punted and held for kicker Tyler Bass, who made all eight of his field goal attempts." said Getzenberg.
It shouldn’t take Doman Jr. much convincing to win the starting job and if the coaching staff believes in him, Wishnowsky could be gone from the team early on.
