The Buffalo Bills hosted a practice for the first time at the new Highmark Stadium, and fans were able to be in attendance to not just watch the practice, but also check out the new stadium in general. With it being a new era for the Bills, it’s only fitting that a new stadium comes into play as well.
With training camp being wrapped up at St. John Fisher University, the Bills will be focusing on the preseason and that’s the chance for the coaching staff to do their evaluations to decide who gets a final 53-man roster spot, and who will be let go.
During the scrimmage at the new Highmark Stadium, Bills fans who haven’t been able to be part of training camp got to see some insights on players and schemes that they have been working on during training camp. However, two major injury concerns popped up that should have Bills fans heavily concerned.
Bills' offense gets hit with two injury updates
The first notable reported injury involved running back Ty Johnson, who walked with a trainer to the locker room slowly, according to Sal Capaccio. Jon Scott then reported that Johnson was grabbing his right leg, and overall wasn’t able to walk off with assistance of the trainer. Having Johnson dealing with an injury is not a good sign for the running back room considering the value that he brings.
Then the second notable injury involved the Bills' starting center in Connor McGovern. According to Sal Capaccio, McGovern "was coming back with the rest of the offense after an interception and suddenly just started hopping and went down to the ground." Capaccio then reported that McGovern was able to walk off the field under his own power, but that he was favoring his right leg.
Bills fans must hope these injuries are nothing too serious
McGovern is the anchor of the offensive line, and the Bills proved it by extending him to a four-year deal before free agency opened up this past March. He is one of the best pass protectors in the game, and he helps solidify the offensive line. While it was great to see that he was able to walk off the field himself, you never want to see someone of his importance miss any meaningful time.
As for Ty Johnson, he plays a very important role in Joe Brady’s offense because he can do it all. He can run the ball and pick up those tough yards on third down, he can catch passes out of the backfield and down the field, and he can help provide protection for Josh Allen in the pocket.
These are not small injury updates, and fans will need to be hoping that McGovern and Johnson’s injuries aren’t anything that could affect them greatly going into the regular season.
