Grading every first round pick in the NFL Draft for the Buffalo Bills current regime
Josh Allen (2018 NFL Draft)
In 2018, the Buffalo Bills would have two first round picks due in part to the trade with the Kansas City Chiefs the year prior. They would make two trades to move up to seventh overall to select quarterback Josh Allen out of Wyoming as their first selection.
At the time, Josh Allen was considered to be the quarterback with the highest ceiling in that year’s draft class but also had significant question marks with the biggest being accuracy. The selection clearly worked out as Josh Allen has developed into one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
He has now had three straight years with at least 4,200 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns while also rushing for 1,946 yards and 21 rushing touchdowns. The Bills were able to agree to a long-term extension in 2021 that will keep him in Buffalo through the 2028 season.
There is no decision that is more make-or-break for a general manager than at quarterback, especially one in the Top 10. The Buffalo Bills clearly got this one right and is one of the big reasons they have had the success they have had over the years.
Grade: A+
