Buffalo Bills Draft: 5 tight-ends the Bills could target in 2023 NFL Draft
Top 2023 tight end prospects for the Buffalo Bills: Michael Mayer, Notre Dame
According to some scouts and sports sites, Michael Mayer is the cream of the tight end crop and is possibly the most polished among them all as well. If the Bills go this route and draft Mayer with the 27th pick, I would not be opposed to this one either. I think he and Knox could form one of the best one/two punches in the league.
Mayer by some, is considered a can’t miss prospect in the NFL. He brings athleticism, and pass-catching ability, and can block as well. He’s essentially the total package. He was even nicknamed “Baby Gronk” but most say the better comparison is to that of the Ravens’ tight end, Mark Andrews or former Cowboy, Jason Witten.
Mayer played three seasons with Notre Dame, playing 36 games, compiling 180 receptions, 2,099 yards, and 18 touchdowns. Not only was he highly productive in the passing game, but he’s also an asset in the blocking game, whether that be pass protection or run blocking.
Mayer is 6’4″ and weighs 249 pounds, running a 40-time of 4.7. He and Kincaid are very similar body types and are both very capable of making an impact in year one. The difference between them is Mayer might be the better blocker coming out of college, whereas Kincaid brings more run after the catch ability.
