4 ways the Buffalo Bills offensive line could improve internally in 2023

The Bills coaching staff presents an interesting situation. Normally, it would seem odd to think that coaches of a unit that ranked second in the NFL in scoring would be under a microscope the following year. However, that is precisely where offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and offensive line coach Aaron Kromer rightfully find themselves. This is a talented squad with enormous potential. While patience is warranted, falling short in big spots and inconsistent performances down the stretch will not sit well with Bills fans in 2023.

That being said, it is reasonable to expect significant improvement in the Bills offense, and particularly from the O-line next season. Dorsey is a highly respected coach and the coach that Josh Allen publicly supported for this position. He should continue to grow and with a full off-season and increased input into decisions (and hopefully increased investment in the O-line) he should have every opportunity to flourish.  With head coach Sean McDermott expected to be the primary defensive play caller, at least at the beginning of the season, responsibility for the offense now falls squarely on Dorsey.

Offensive line coach Aaron Kromer has a track record of success, both with the Bills and elsewhere. He has the head-coaching experience and should understand the bigger picture of what the Bills are trying to accomplish. He too is entering his second year in his current tenure with the Bills, after previously coaching for them in 2015-16, and has shown a unique ability to get the most out of a running game in the past, so is a unique fit for an offense that relies so heavily on passing.

However, despite Kromer’s history of success, every member of the Bills Offensive Line graded out more poorly in 2022 under his coaching than they had in 2021. This is a very concerning trend, especially considering the relative health and stability of the linemen as a whole last year. Look for this area to turn around quickly, or for Kromer to quickly be on the hot seat in Buffalo.
