3 reasons the Buffalo Bills re-signing Jordan Poyer was a win for all
By Joe Cook
Jordan Poyer’s contract is a bargain for the Buffalo Bills
First and foremost, Poyer hit free agency seeking a big payday. His new deal doesn’t seem to be the break-the-bank type deal he had in mind. According to Spotrac, it has a base value of $12.5 million, and a $6.25 million average per year. Additionally, $6.24 million is guaranteed, and he can earn an extra one million in incentives. His cap hit for 2023 is a team-friendly low of $4.85 million, followed by $7.5 million in 2024.
For reference, fellow star safety, Jessie Bates, just landed a four-year $64 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. In 2022, in 16 games played, Bates had 71 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, one forced fumble, and eight passes defended. in 12 games played, Poyer had 63 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, four interceptions, one forced fumble, and eight passes defended; all while playing through multiple injuries.
Poyer is ranked by Spotrac as the 26th highest-paid safety in the league. The Bills have the 2022 Pro-Bowler for a fraction of the cost of the highest-paid safeties, putting up similar or better stats.
