Sammy Watkins returns to Buffalo, first career game against the Bills

One of the potential reasons for Aaron Rodgers’ struggles this season has been the departure of Davante Adams, who was traded in the offseason to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Packers have gotten inconsistent performance from their wide receivers but did get a former first round pick back last week.

That former first round pick was Sammy Watkins, who was actually drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2014 with the fourth overall pick. The Bills traded Watkins prior to the 2017 season and he has had stops with the Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and now the Packers.

However, during that time he has never played the Buffalo Bills. The closest he came was in 2020 as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs but he was inactive for both the regular season and playoff game that year.

While Watkins has never developed into that top-tier wide receiver, he certainly can make an impact when given some space. In Week 2, he had 93 receiving yards, and last week in his return he averaged 18 yards per reception.
