5 takeaways for the Buffalo Bills from their Week 5 win over the Steelers
Rookie class makes a big impact against the Steelers
This week the Buffalo Bills got big plays from a lot of their rookies as Khalil Shakir and James Cook both had their first career touchdowns and Kaiir Elam made his first career interception.
Among the rookies, Khalil Shakir was probably the most impressive as he not only stepped in as the primary punt returner but also replaced Isaiah McKenzie and Jamison Crowder in the slot. He replaced McKenzie last week against the Ravens and built off that promising performance and had three receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown.
As for James Cook, he showed a good burst on the ground with an excellent 24-yard touchdown run in the second half. He hasn’t had a chance to make much of an impact and maybe this is a sign of things to come.
Meanwhile, Kaiir Elam struggled a bit in this game as Pickett targeted him early and often but he was able to respond with an interception in the closing minutes of the first half.
The Bills have likely relied on their rookies more than they would have hoped in the early part of this season due to injuries. However, this experience will be very beneficial as the season goes along.
