Reggie Gilliam

One of the unsung heroes of the offensive side of the ball has been fullback Reggie Gilliam, who received a contract extension earlier this year. It makes sense now why Buffalo extended the former undrafted free agent because he has had an expanded role on offense.

In his first two seasons with the team, Gilliam primarily made an impact on special teams and was a big part of that group. He remains a big part this season but also is getting more time on offense in Ken Dorsey’s scheme.

Through the first four games, he is averaging just over 16 snaps per game which is up from 7.8 snaps per game his first two years in the league. Gilliam also is being used more than just as a blocker for the run game and already has career highs in targets (6), receptions (5), and receiving yards (39). He also caught a touchdown, which was the second of his career.

While these totals may not be huge, what it does show is the versatility the offense has when incorporating a player like Reggie Gilliam. He gives defenses one more player they have to account for and when given the opportunity has been successful.
