Rookie recap for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 after victory over Rams
James Cook
One of the top storylines entering this game was how James Cook might be involved in this offense. He is a versatile player that could be moved around but during the preseason, the coaching staff kept it pretty limited to just handoffs and the occasional dump-off in the passing game.
Unfortunately, Cook wasn’t involved much in this game either as he had only one carry for two yards, no targets, and played only three offensive snaps. This was surprising but it might not have been the plan entering this game.
The reason the Bills may have limited his work was due to the fact that he would fumble on his only carry of the game. The coaching staff may have decided to make a switch to Zack Moss, who played more than expected. It is not uncommon for the coaching staff to make these changes if players make these types of mistakes during the course of the game.
If Cook sees a similar workload against the Tennesse Titans, then the fumble likely wasn’t the root cause for his limited snaps and the split workload between Devin Singletary and Zack Moss could have been the plan all along.
