While there were three preseason games, this was the first real test in the NFL for the rookies on the Buffalo Bills. It is always a challenge making that jump from college to the NFL but for these rookies, they had to do it in front of a national audience on a big stage.
Some of the rookies for the Buffalo Bills had better starts than others and this is a recap of how they all did starting with the group who saw limited snaps or was inactive.
Rookie recap for the Buffalo Bills in Week 1
Khalil Shakir, Baylon Spector, Terrel Bernard
One of the big surprises from Week 1 was Khalil Shakir being inactive. The fifth round draft pick had an excellent preseason and was even listed as the starting punt returner. However, the Bills didn’t have enough room on the game-day roster and had Jamison Crowder back to return punts.
As for Baylon Spector and Terrel Bernard, they were almost exclusively special teams contributors with both playing 11 special teams snaps. Bernard did have one snap on defense but neither player recorded a stat in this game.
