The first game of the 2022 season is quickly approaching and on Saturday the Buffalo Bills released their depth chart for Week 1, which WGR550’s Sal Capaccio tweeted out.

While the Buffalo Bills don’t have to follow this depth chart exactly, it does give an indication on how they view some players and what their roles might be for Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

With that in mind, these were six things that stood out to me when looking at the depth chart.

Kaiir Elam starting cornerback alongside Dane Jackson

For most of the summer, there was the hope that Tre’Davious White would be able to play Week 1. On Tuesday, when the Bills cut their roster down to 53 players that hope was extinguished as White was moved to the PUP list and will now miss a minimum of four games.

With White no longer available, the question became who would start at cornerback? On one side, Dane Jackson looked to be a lock and has been with the starters for almost all of training camp and preseason.

The other side seemed to be a bit of a battle between rookies Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford. The coaching staff has appeared to make their decision and it will be Elam starting against the Rams.

This will be a big spot for the first round draft pick and it would stand to reason that Matthew Stafford is going to be looking his way a lot to test him in his first NFL regular season game.
