League settings matter in fantasy football

The idea that James Cook could outscore Devin Singletary this year is largely tied to the scoring in the league you are playing in. This upcoming season Singletary is going to be the player who will handle a majority of the rushing work in this offense meanwhile James Cook will handle the passing work.

In most point-per-reception (PPR) leagues, Cook is going to be the higher scoring back in these formats due to the simple fact that Singletary needs to gain 10 rushing yards to score the same points as a reception by James Cook that goes for no yards.

Last year, one of the reasons that Singletary was as productive as he was, was due to the fact that he was getting almost all the work from the position. This included the receiving work and Singletary had 40 receptions on 50 targets which almost all of this presumably goes to Cook this season.

When looking at both players, Devin Singletary is going to be the player who is going to have more consistent weeks because he is going to be getting almost all the rushing work. That gives him a good floor and while Cook may be more volatile week to week, by the end of the year he is going to be the player with more points, especially in PPR or half point per reception leagues.
