The Buffalo Bills opened training camp on Sunday and the good news was that all players were in attendance. That included starting safety Jordan Poyer, who is currently looking for a new contract.

While there was no indication that Poyer might hold out, it is always a possibility with these types of situations. However, Poyer hasn’t elected to take that route as he also was in attendance for the mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason.

On Sunday, it appears these contract discussions are actively ongoing as Poyer was not in attendance alone as his agent, Drew Rosenhaus was also in attendance at Buffalo Bills training camp.

General manager Brandon Beane was asked about contract discussions and he said that he doesn’t discuss negotiations in the media but has a great relationship with Jordan Poyer and Drew Rosenhaus.

Jordan Poyer reiterates that he wants to remain with the Buffalo Bills

After practice on Sunday, Jordan Poyer met with the media and was asked about his desire for a new contract. While he is looking for a new deal, Poyer reiterated how much he wants to stay with the Bills and how much he loves the area.

Jordan Poyer has developed into one of the best safeties in the NFL since joining Buffalo in 2017. He has only missed two games over five seasons and has had at least 93 or more total tackles every year. He also has 18 interceptions, 36 passes defended, and 10 sacks during that stretch.

This past year he also finally received some league-wide recognition by being named to the first-team All-Pro.

There is no question that Jordan Poyer is a big part of this defense and a key reason for the success they have had. The questions lie in the fact of whether or not the Bills can work out a new deal that fits within the salary cap and makes sense for both sides.

Another question is if the two sides don’t agree on a new deal, would Jordan Poyer demand a trade before the season? Based on the fact that he has not sat out any offseason workouts and his admiration for the area, it doesn’t seem likely but it may be an option until there is some resolution.
