The Buffalo Bills made a number of free agent moves that should have big impacts this season, particularly the signing of Von Miller. However, they also brought in players like Jamison Crowder, DaQuan Jones, and Rodger Saffold that are expected to play key roles in the team’s success in 2022.
While there are a number of moves that Buffalo Bills did make, there were also some players that were rumored to be on the team’s radar. These moves ultimately didn’t happen but this might end up not being a bad thing for the team. This is a closer look at four of those rumored moves that Buffalo is fortunate didn’t come to fruition.
Which free agents will the Buffalo Bills not regret signing in 2022?
The first player is one that the Buffalo Bills actually agreed to a contract with as J.D. McKissic agreed to a two-year deal but before he made it official, he elected to return to the Washington Commanders. The Bills would then pivot and sign Duke Johnson to be that veteran running back in this backfield that can excel as a pass catcher.
However, the decision of McKissic likely also factored into the team drafting James Cook in the second round. If the Bills had McKissic, who agreed to a two-year deal, it doesn’t seem likely that they would have used a second round pick on Cook as both players would have played essentially the same role.
In the end, the Buffalo Bills may have gotten lucky by McKissic deciding to return to Washington as James Cook has the potential to be a much more talented running back in the NFL that has the potential to be a featured running back but at a minimum can match what McKissic would have brought as a pass catcher as early as this season.
