Shaq Lawson

Another former defensive lineman who had a career year in 2019 and left the Buffalo Bills that following offseason was Shaq Lawson. He was a former first round pick and struggled his first three years to make a big impact.

The Buffalo Bills would elect to not pick up his fifth-year option and entering the final year of his rookie contract would also set career highs in sacks (6.5), tackles for a loss (13), and QB hits (18). After the season, he signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent but lasted only one season there before being traded to the Houston Texans in 2021.

However, the Texans would trade him to the New York Jets before he even got a chance to play a regular season game last year. He would play most of the season with the Jets but be released prior to the end of the year.

Similar to Jordan Phillips, Shaq Lawson now returns to the defense that he had the most success and could be a factor this season. Among the defensive ends on the roster, Lawson is potentially one of the best against the run and should be able to establish a role in the rotation this year.
